Our First Food Trial: Beef

Day 3 of beef. He ate 2 teaspoons and no reaction. I'm not celebrating until we take our break and re-introduce it next week.

We had our pediatrician appointment today. He weighed 7.84 kg. This represents a gain of 7 oz in 6 weeks, but I worry because he was at the 37.1st percentile 6 weeks ago, and today he sits at the 23.9th percentile. (I use infantchart.com to calculate those numbers.) I gathered our pediatrician didn't really know that much about FPIES food trial protocols because she asked me why we'd only be able to try a couple of new foods per month. I know it's a common frustration to have to educate doctors about FPIES but it still surprised me.

The question I wanted to clarify was whether we should be doing meals of foods he has previously tolerated, or should I trial them (since there were only 3 exposures initially and then a break). I was planning on erring on the side of caution and trialing, but only for 3 days...but it's soooo slowwwww. We'd only have a handful of safe foods by the time he turns 1! I'm starting to wonder if it's worth the risk to just give him a) low risk foods and b) previously tolerated foods as a second meal in additional to the beef (or whatever our trial is on a given day). If he does react, I won't be sure what caused it. This further leads to the question then of lowered nursing needs and lowered supply which might become a problem to bring back up again if he doesn't tolerate enough foods fast enough. I'm having a hard enough time keeping up right now!

Small victory for today: We went to the park with my youngest brother (who hasn't visited in a few months) and my other younger brother's girlfriend (who was in town on business) - I figured enough hours had passed to risk it, and it was nice to have company.
